Meet The Class Leaders
West Wickham & Beckenham
My name is Samantha Baldwin and I am the founder of Phonics Stars™️. I am extremely passionate and committed to making a difference and offering opportunities. I founded Phonics Stars™️ in 2015. Phonics Stars™️ is a now a fast growing company with franchises in various parts of the UK.
I founded Phonics Stars™ in January 2015 but my passion for supporting children and my love for early education started much earlier on.
In 2003 I began my journey working within childcare and education. I ran a very successful childminding business, graded outstanding in all areas. I also worked with Bromley Mencap and as a support Childminder for London Borough of Bromley. 10 years later, with more qualifications and experience behind me I became an Early Years Educator in an ‘Outstanding’ London Primary school. Having experienced the challenges by both children and schools, I decided that I could make a positive contribution to children’s futures by founding Phonics Stars™️ Ltd.

Dulwich & Forest Hill and Chislehurst & Bromley Areas.
My name is Holly I am the new Phonics Stars™ class leader for the Dulwich & Forest Hill and Chislehurst & Bromley areas. I am a qualified specialist teaching practitioner, with many years experience teaching and supporting Primary School children with Dyslexia in both Private and State schools.
As a dyslexia specialist, I usually work with children who are behind expected levels. I work with those who are not secure in their knowledge of the letters and corresponding sounds, even at ages 5, 6 and 7 years. It was clear to me that children who had attended Phonics Stars™ would be at a significant advantage over their peers in terms of their phonetic awareness and reading development.
I was so impressed at the ability of children at Sam’s Phonics Stars™ classes that I just had to get involved to help Sam share these fun and educational classes to a wider audience. Phonics Stars™️ promote ‘learning through play’ to support the wider early years developmental skills including fine and gross motor skills, crossing the mid-line, working with others in a group, following simple instructions and developing an awareness of positional language – all of which is developed in a fun and engaging way.

Bishops Stortford, Ware & The Hadhams – Book Now
Hi, Im Jo! The licensed Phonics Stars ™ Leader for Bishops Stortford, Ware and The Hadhams. I’m a qualified primary school teacher and a mum to two cheeky little girls.
Teaching has always been a passion of mine, but combining my full time job as a mum and going back into teaching (after having spent the best part of 10 years working with young children) was a challenge. I decided it was time to find something new!
Having attended various mother and toddler groups, I began to research classes that I could get involved with – and this is when I discovered Phonics Stars™. The opportunity to be part of a franchise which shares the same ideas, values and beliefs about education as I do was a big driving force in pursuing my personal journey!
Through Phonics Stars™ I am able to fulfil my passion for teaching as well as my desire to be a hands on mum. Watching children build their confidence as they uncover a world of new words and experiences, whilst supporting parents and carers with phonics is an absolute joy! And one which I really want to continue to spread through Phonics Stars™!

Hello, My name is Faye Clarke and I am the licensed Phonics Stars™️ class leader for Portsmouth & Chichester. I live in Havant with my husband and two little boys.
I have been a Primary School Teacher for over 12 years and have been working as part of the Senior Leadership Team for the past 5 years where, as the English Leader, I was responsible for improving reading and writing across the school. I am extremely passionate about children learning to read and write and believe that phonics plays a huge role in underpinning the skills needed to become independent in reading and writing.
After having my son, I decided that I was ready for a new challenge! In becoming a licensed Phonics Stars™️ Class leader, I have been able to spend more quality time with my family yet still do something I’m extremely passionate about; delivering quality teaching to children.
As a parent and experienced teacher, I understand that we always want to give our children the best possible opportunities to prepare them for their future lives. I also understand the ever increasing demands and expectations being placed upon young children throughout their school career.
I truly believe that Phonics Stars™️ gives children a gentle introduction to the skills needed when entering school. It is not only fully linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage and Letters and Sounds, but is also packed full of fun, engaging and interactive activities which prepare children for all aspects of learning, and supports their physical, social and emotional development by learning through play.

Colchester, Clacton & Harwich
Hi I am Sam and I am the Licensed Class Leader for Phonics Stars™ in Colchester, Clacton & Harwich. I have been a qualified Early Years/Y1 teacher for over 12 years. As a Year 1 teacher I was responsible for ensuring that children had the knowledge and understanding to prepare them for the lifelong enjoyment of reading and for the Y1 Phonics Screening Check. I also delivered intervention support for individual children who found learning sounds and reading a bit tricky and supported teachers in their planning and delivery of effective phonics lessons.
When I first discovered Phonics Stars™ I knew that this is what was needed, not just for children who found learning difficult, but for all children, to give them a head start in ‘big’ school. Phonics Stars™ classes, through a range of fun activities, also ensure that children’s fine motor skills are developed so that their muscles are strong enough for everyday tasks.
Phonics Stars™ has given me a new challenge and a new career focus. It is hard work but is also exciting and so rewarding. For the first time in a long time, I am able to spend more quality time with my children and family.
Phonics Stars™ believes in everything that I value in a child’s early education; presenting learning in a fun and playful way whilst building a child’s knowledge, confidence and self-esteem. Also importantly, involving and supporting parents so that they are encompassed in their child’s learning.
Being a Phonics Stars™ class leader enables me to do something I truly love: giving children the skills to become confident little learners!

St.Albans and Welwyn Hatfield
Hi I am Jemma and I live in St.Albans with my husband and little boy. I have been a primary school teacher for over 8 years and have been working as an English coordinator and Early Years leader for the past 3 years. Both leadership roles have required me to monitor the teaching and learning of reading and writing across the school. I was responsible for overseeing the delivery of phonics within Early Years and Key Stage One. This involved supporting teachers to plan effective phonics lessons, leading teacher training sessions ,helping teachers plan interventions to support below age related children and carrying out observations. I’ve also lead several workshops for parents in order to develop their subject knowledge in phonics, letters and sounds.
In the early years, it is important for children to not only begin to learn letters and sounds but to develop their fine motor skills which are essential for everyday tasks such as holding a pencil, using cutlery and fastening clothing. At Phonics Stars, we plan a range of exciting activities to build muscle strength, hand eye coordination and object manipulation.
After 8 years of teaching, I fell pregnant with my little boy in 2018. While on maternity leave ,I decided that it was time for a new challenge. I felt that I needed to follow a career path that gave me flexible working hours and more time with my wonderful family.
I believe that Phonics Stars provides children with a crucial head start to school life where expectations are getting increasingly higher. The sessions will grow children’s love for learning and most importantly we’ll have tonnes and tonnes of fun!

Ruislip & Ickenham
My name is Chloe and I am the Phonics Stars™️ class leader for Ruislip, Ickenham and Pinner. I am a Qualified Early Years Teacher with over 13 years experience teaching in and around London. I am also a Mum to Stevie who is 2 and a half.
As soon as I first laid eyes on my daughter I realised I wanted to spend every possible moment I could with her, that meant it was time to hang up my full time teaching shoes. As any teacher will tell you teaching is a vocation, a passion, a calling. I knew whatever I decided to do next would have to still be involved in Early Years Education.
I started to extensively research what I could do next. That’s when I discovered Phonics Stars™️. I can not tell you how excited I was and phoned the founder Samantha Baldwin immediately to book a time to come and observe a class. Sams enthusiasm for her classes was infectious, that was the moment I fell in love with Phonics Stars™️ and the rest as they say is history!
Phonics Stars™️ classes are theme based, we focus on a different sound each week. As well as lots of sound work (recognition, pronunciation and formation) we also cover lots of other areas across the EYFS profile. As I said earlier I have taught in Nurseries and Reception class’s across London for over 13 years, so I can speak from experience that this is a fantastic programme that REALLY does promote school readiness.
It has been proven time and time again that children learn best when they feel safe and secure in their environment. I strive to create exactly that every week when I deliver my Phonics Stars™️ classes. If someone was to ask me what the best part of my job was? My answer would be there are far too many to mention but watching my little Stars grow in confidence and knowledge week upon week would be up there at the top.
I feel truly blessed to do a job that I absolutely love and am so passionate about, as well as that the cherry on the cake is that I get the time to spend these precious years at home with my little one.

Bexley and Greenwich – Book Now!
Hi, I’m Louise! I am the Phonics Stars™️ class leader for Bexley and Greenwich. I am a Qualified Primary School Teacher with over 12 years experience teaching children from Nursery to Year 6 in South East London. My career has taken me from an Early Years specialist teacher, to English, Music and Computing Leads at my schools, catapulting me into successful Leadership positions before having my daughter, Olivia two years ago.
Having a baby made me completely re-evaluate my career choices. I craved spending as much time as I could with her, reducing my full-time successful teaching career to part-time. But once back in the Year 6 classroom, I was itching for a new adventure, and get back to my real passion of Early Years Education! Being an advocator for early learning through play, creativity, song and dance, and the desire to own my own business, I knew my path in education would eventually take a different, more exciting turn…
I was looking for classes for my daughter when I found Phonics Stars™️. My eyes lit up and my heart swelled, and I realised that this was going to be my next adventure. I contacted Sam, booked in for a day with her and signed up! Here I am today, one of the Phonics Stars™️ family.
At Phonics Stars™️, we focus on a different sound each week with lots of sound work (recognition, pronunciation and formation). Croydon, Coulsdon and Caterham – Book Now
Hi, I’m Gemma and I am the licensed Phonics Stars™️ leader for Croydon, Coulsdon and Caterham areas. I live in Croydon with my husband and 3 children.
I have qualified as a Level 3 teacher assistant and have specialised in Special Educational Needs.
My first experience with Phonics Stars™️ was when I attended classes with my eldest child back in 2015. I saw first hand how beneficial these classes were. He was engaged, having fun and learning important literacy skills. In particular, he loved the dancing with dough! Inspired by the fantastic idea I wanted to become apart of this adventure for other children.
Becoming a Phonics Stars leader has allowed me to get involved, helping children learn in a fun and positive way, while still being there for my family.
Children learn best when they are in a positive and rewarding environment. This is exactly what I hope to achieve in my classes. That your little stars will learn and enjoy attending, and will also get that boost of confidence ready to start school.

Cambridge – Book Now
Hi, I’m Anna, the Phonics Stars class leader for Cambridge and the surrounding villages. I live in Cambridge with my husband, my two lively young boys and an excitable cocker spaniel.
I came across Phonic Stars when I was looking for this exact class for my son Toby. I realised that there was nothing currently available in Cambridge and so I thought it was time to set up some classes myself!
I am a huge believer that children learn best through play and in an informal but nurturing environment. The classes are structured around creative and diverse activities which are perfect for helping children to build self confidence as well as physical, social and emotional development. Most importantly they are lots of fun!
My aim is to encourage carers to also gain inspiration for activities that can be copied at home and this can help provide a head start for children before they start ‘Big school’.
I absolutely love meeting new faces and getting to know all of my little Stars so do not hesitate to get in touch to learn more about my classes or come along for a trial to find out how much fun can be had.

Birmingham South – Book Now
Hi, I am Lis and I am the licensed Phonics Stars™ class leader for Birmingham South.
I am a qualified secondary school teacher, with a specialism in English as an Additional Language (EAL) and I have been joint Head of Learning Development Department for 3 years. One of my key areas of responsibility has been the literacy intervention that we provide to students. I believe that students need to learn the basics of language, such as phonics, at a young age so that this can provide the foundations for all their subsequent learning and allow them to reach their full potential.
Phonics Stars™ classes will focus on a different sound each week and this will be reinforced through creative and diverse activities. We will build up memory development through play and will work through the three strands of Phase 1 Phonics and this understanding of phonics will aid reading.
Primarily I wish to teach children the skills to communicate with confidence and understanding and to inspire inquisitive minds!
If you would like more information about the classes please contact me or come along for a trial class to see how much fun learning phonics can be.

York – Book Now
Hello my name is Tricia, I am a mother of two to Annie 6 and Anthony 5. I have been married to Chris for almost a year.
I am currently a Childminder, which I have been doing for 8 years but have worked with children for 20 years. I am a school governor and committee member of the Parent, Teacher, Friends Association at the school my children attend.
I love teaching the children Phonics at my setting but since becoming a Governor I have realised how much of a need there is for it to be available more widely in the community for parents to understand the importance of Early Phonics Awareness (phase 1) before their children start school. This is where I would like to help. I chose Phonics Stars because of their fun interactive classes that look so engaging for both children and parents.

Redhill, Reigate and Horley – Book Now
Hi, I’m Becky and I’m the new licensed Phonics Stars™ leader for Redhill, Reigate, Horley and surrounding areas. I’ve recently moved to the area and live with my partner and mischievous cat, called Zorro. I have a real love for early years education and I’m extremely passionate about supporting children’s learning through play; enabling them to become happy, confident and independent learners.
I’ve had the privilege of working in a number of roles in early years and education settings over the last 12 years, including pre-school room leader and deputy nursery manager. For the last 7 years, I’ve loved working as a primary school teacher across Reception and Key Stage 1. During this time, I taught phonics on a daily basis and saw firsthand how beneficial this approach is when teaching children to read and write. It was such a pleasure to see the joy on children’s faces when reading and writing for the first time. I also supported other teachers in planning and delivering effective phonics lessons and led workshops with parents, sharing support strategies for early reading and writing.
I was first introduced to Phonics Stars™ when Sam came to deliver training at the primary school I worked at. I was so inspired by the company’s ethos and the engaging, creative activities she shared with us. I immediately knew I wanted to join the Phonics Stars™ family, as my next adventure within education!
At Phonics Stars™, activities are linked to a different sound each week, but our energetic classes are about so much more than just learning letters and sounds. Through a variety of active, play based activities (with lots of singing, dancing and disco dough gym, of course!) children develop their fine-motor, gross-motor, communication and social skills. They will take part in activities and games which support their understanding of numbers and spark a love of stories and mark making (early writing), whilst having opportunities to be creative and imaginative.
Having worked as a teacher, I wholeheartedly believe that Phonics Stars™ classes help to provide children with a solid foundation for starting school. Our classes provide a positive and safe environment for learning, filled with lots of fun and exciting opportunities to make fabulous memories together.
If you agree that Phonics Stars™ is the class for you and your ‘Little Star’, or you would like to find out more, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I look forward to meeting you at a Phonics Stars™ Redhill, Reigate and Horley class soon!

Blackheath and Lewisham – Book Now
Hi, I’m Claire and I am the new licensed Phonics Stars Class Leader for Blackheath and Lewisham.
I live locally with my husband and two teenage daughters.
I am a qualified teacher with 20 years experience of teaching infant children.
I love teaching younger children as they are so enthusiastic and eager to learn. There is nothing more rewarding than having a group of children thoroughly engaged and immersed in their learning. I believe this is achieved by ensuring the activities are play based, fun, stimulating and interactive thus enabling children to become independent and enthused learners. Play is serious learning!
I have had the privilege of working in both an extremely large and a very small infant school during my career. During this time, I have taught phonics every day and I have been fortunate to have had excellent training in this area. As the majority of my teaching experience has been mainly in Year 1 I am very familiar with the Phonics Screening check and my classes have always been successful in the check. I believe phonics play a huge role in underpinning the skills needed to become confident and secure readers and writers.
After many years in the classroom I am ready for a new challenge and an opportunity to use my skills and expertise on a new adventure. Phonics Stars really ignites my passion for teaching and learning through play based, engaging and stimulating classes. Phonics Stars provides a positive and engaging start to a child’s learning experience. I fell in love with the concept and the activities as soon as I was introduced to them. The sessions support and encourage early reading and writing skills as well as promoting many other core areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Phonics Stars provides a solid foundation for more formal education later on in a child’s learning journey as well as supporting their physical, social and emotional development. Through the classes parents can also receive support and insight into their child’s learning so they are involved in the learning journey too.
I can’t wait to work with the local young children and their families to inspire a love of reading and writing through the Phonics Star sessions. I am so excited about having the opportunity of teaching and having fun with all the local little stars. I look forward to meeting you all soon.
